Chambre de
Parade
Decorated
in the XVIIth
century, this superb room
contains a four-poster bed in an alcove with a handrail.
The ceiling is embellished with a large composition of Apollo’s
chariot, in the style of Simon
Vouet (*), Premier Peintre
du Roi (First Painter of the King),
under Louis XIIIth
Over
two other doors can be seen some still-lives.
Over
one of the doors are
the portraits of Louis XIV, the
Dauphin and Marie-Thérèse
of
Austria.
The
monumental fireplace, “à
la
française”, is in sculpted wood and gilt. The
over-mantel bears a copy on wood of Lionella Spada’s
painting : Enée and Anchise. This
painting
represents Enee
holding his father Anchise, Creüse - Enee's wife - and their
son Ascagne. Anchise is taking from Creüse 's arms its most
precious possession : his home's gods which will become Rome's Pénates
(*),
according to Virgile.
