Staircase
"à l'italienne"
|
The main Staircase is built
in the
Italian style and leads from the main entrance of the castle
to the upper floors. The vault is in brick and stone with a double turn
to the right.
The intermediary landing gives access to the rear of the castle via a
door bearing two old stained glass
panels.
On the first floor, the ceiling is in stone caissons
decorated with leaves.
In spite of damage done during the French Revolution, there is still
enough to be seen to be able to distinguish the family crests of Nicolas
Leconte de Draqueville and his wife Catherine
Maigret to enable the dating of the construction of the
castle; that is between 1555, date of their marriage, and 1577, date of
his demise. |
